SIGNS, WONDERS AND MIRACLES

  Today's 1st reading reminds me of this song. When I look into Your holiness, When I gaze into Your loveliness When all things that surround me Become shadows in the light of  you When I found the joy of reaching Your heart, When my will becomes enthroned in Your love. When all things that surround me Become shadows in the light of  you I WORSHIP YOU,      I WORSHIP YOU THE REASON I LIVE   IS TO WORSHIP YOU. This song makes a lot of sense for our life should be a testimony of our worship to God. Amen.   We don't have a straight answer to the many questions we have in life just like all these questions stated in today's 1st reading. In the same way, we sometimes do not have the answers to the things that happen to us. We may never come to a full understanding of these things. Just like Job we must keep up the faith and never question God's will in our lives anymore. Only God knows. Our consolation lies in the truth that He knows best. There are times when we fail to stand firm in our convictions and commitments to God when the toughest gets really going. Though, God is always good and we can always rely on His ways to get us through. When we are confronted by a situation wherein we need to make a decision it may come to a point when we will falter and just like Job end up entertaining thoughts that could lead to a possibility of another option which is neither good nor bad but is not in conformity with the life statement that we have committed to God.    Today is the Feast of Sts. Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, Archangels. Gabriel means ‘messenger of God’ Raphael means ‘healing of God’ and Michael means ‘strength of God.’ It is so reassuring that as Catholics we believe in their existence as the bible tells us so and can call upon their intercession and help in our lives. For example, we invoke Michael for protection in our lives. I have already shared this several times and I will not hesitate to share it again in order to give due recognition to the angels that God sends our way to help us. I can never forget when I attended a prayer healing in the  Holy   Family   Church  here at  Glendale  headed by Bro. Carmelo from Sta. Maria Bulacan. He gave each one of us a fresh white rose petal which he placed on our chest and after praying we were told to remove it in order for us to take a look at it.   If we are just going to look back and recall all the things that have happened in our life then we can never deny the presence of guardian angels as spoken of in today's gospel. God always makes His messages known to us in various ways but He confirms them to us too. God is assuring us that there is no need to be afraid because He directs us always to the right path and if ever we are led astray He constantly searches for us to lead us back to Him. We should remain eternally trusting in our faith in God as a child is with his/her parents. It is faith that must become the foundation of all that we do.  I could still remember very well how my mother used to mention to us how God made all things possible for us especially at that time when my father suddenly died and we were just very young, aged 4, 3 and 1. Job is her favorite bible character, because he is the one whom she would always mention to us and whom she admired most. It could be due to the fact that like Job she almost lost everything when my father died because she was very young then. She and my father were just starting out as a family and then all of a sudden he died. She would always say that what was most hurting is the fact that my father had been a very good husband to her and good father to us which made it even more difficult for her to lose him. In addition to that was the fact that she was left all alone to carry the burden of the responsibilities of our family.   The Lord in today's 1st reading calls the attention of the people in the time of Amos the prophet to act accordingly and not be mere spectators. This reminds me of the time when we had our bible study with Bro. Willy Santa Maria. We were discussing about the book of Wisdom and he touched the topic about the soul. To explain further he cited Aristotle a Greek philosopher who classified the Theory of Definition into 2 : nominal and real. The example he gave for nominal is water, being such in name only, or in appearance. The real definition, he further classified into how and "what is it meant to be?" As to "how" he defined water as H2O, relaxing and life giving.    As to "what is it meant to be?" or Toti en enni in Greek he elaborated by citing the acorn that developed into a full grown oak tree.
