SIGNS, WONDERS AND MIRACLES

     We often typecast people based on what we see in them. No other title can surpass the privilege of being identified as a “people peculiarly his own” meaning we are unique, extraordinary, special, exceptional and exclusively belongs to God. Today's 1st reading is about the covenant that God has made to His people with a clause attached to it. There is a condition in the agreement which is to keep all His commandments. It is not easy to be a Christian meaning we follow the things that God tells us to do. Whenever we work hard for something we can expect great results and it is exactly what we are supposed to do for it will always be to our advantage that we follow God. If human beings can easily break their promises we are very sure that God doesn't and never will. Let us just focus on His promises always so as not to be disheartened and easily discouraged knowing that the One who promised is trustworthy.     We sometimes put all the blame in God without realizing that it is our own doing that has brought us misery.    The things that are written in the bible do not require a brilliant and intelligent mind in order to understand them. They are all very sound and logical advice and information being conveyed to us by God as a loving parent would to a child that he cares about. All we have to do is listen to what God tells us and act on them. I had this experience several years ago when I was so sleepy that I forgot to remove the rubber band stuck in my hand. I woke up with a terrible pain on it and found that half of my hand's blood supply was cut off, it looked so pale. Come to think of it but this same thing could happen to our spiritual blood supply if we are negligent and continue to be tied to the bondage of sin that cuts off the life giving grace of God.    Today we celebrate the "Feast of the Chair of St. Peter.” Since this is the case, we might as well think of what kind of chair we are sitting at. All of us have been given a certain post in life by the Lord. We can call it a mission or a purpose in life. We have to give it our best shot and be the person God has meant us to be as we aim to fulfill our God given destiny. Whatever that is to us, it should bring about what we should all look forward to receive on that final day when we bid goodbye to our present life here on earth, our reward in heaven and the unfading crown of glory. The feast today reminded me of Sis Mila Perez with regards to some pointers for review while serving as communion minister. She told me that in order to serve during Sundays, I should come at 12 noon when our group is scheduled to serve. I could never forget that time when I was getting ready for Church and a thought suddenly came to me and felt the need to dress up differently for the Mass....

    The story of Jonah who got swallowed by a whale before he finally committed to doing what God asked him to do could very well be our own story. Jonah 1:17, Yahweh prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Oftentimes we are confronted with difficult decisions in our lives and are full of fear and doubt. Sometimes we all end up like Jonah when we refuse to follow and obey what God is telling us to do. We tend to underestimate and doubt the power of God in our life. When we waver and falter in our faith in God and refuse to act according to the Lord's bidding then we end up trusting more, our own personal strength and understanding rather than God's. No matter how difficult the things may seem to be it is always for the best that we seek God's will and approval in everything that we do.     Don't we feel good that we have a God who can always bring to fulfillment what He has promised? The Lord has spoken and it is our duty to nurture and always remember the words He has spoken to us. Not a lot of people like winter especially those people accustomed to the tropical weather. It’s still winter in several parts of the world but spring is here. Just like these seasons, God will fulfill all His promises just like the blooming of the flowers in springtime. He sees our hearts and knows our thoughts; we simply have to trust in His great power that He is able to make all things beautiful. We have a very rich treasure of faith as Catholics and one of them is our belief in life after death. We all know that our faithful departed loved ones are now enjoying the beatific vision of God and are constantly praying and interceding in our behalf.
